Climate Action & Resilient Societies

Keeping the global temperature rise within 1.5 Deg is essential along with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. We, at SusPoT- Center for Sustainability, develop strategies for climate action and adaptation in order to build resilience in the country. Though there is considerable advancement being done in climate science and technologies, it’s time to have a design-centered approach for speeding up climate action. We do this by building knowledge and capacity among youth, general public, concerned stakeholders and social changemakers.

Some of our activities to meet these objectives are to:

  • Educate and motivate citizens to change and adopt sustainable living practices
  • Build Inspiring Youth Leaders (IYL) and incite positive action
  • Design and support in the implementation of resilient and conscious communities
  • Support in the promotion of Eco-Friendly Climate-Smart Buildings
  • Train on smart practices and technologies to scale up regenerative agriculture and food security in India

Resilient Communities

Sustainability starts when sharing starts. Sharing of resources is one of the key mitigation strategies in achieving sustainable goals. Community living and sharing resources will reduce consumption dramatically and enhance efficient utilization of resources. We are enabling people to live together in abundance of happiness, close to nature with birds and animals and sharing resources with each other. We support conscious citizens and youth to design and implement such resilient communities across the country. In these communities, sustainable living practices like: integrated cattle farming, eco-friendly construction, common kitchen and yoga are practiced. Further, we design economic models to make the communities self-sustainable, and utilize these spaces to give experiential immersion programs on joyful-healthy living. These communes act as “Living Labs” for research and knowledge dissemination, skill development and promote climate action activities.

This is one of our key initiatives to holistically solve climate mitigation and adaptation challenges of the century.

Capacity Building to Scale Regenerative Agriculture

So far a great amount of work and programmes have been carried out to promote regenerative agricultural practices in India. However, more than 97% of the farmers are still practicing chemical intensive farming in the country. This means that there is a lack of conversion of theory into practice and there are several bottlenecks and hurdles for the adoption of regenerative agriculture to the farmers. We believe that pure upskilling on concepts and theory is not enough, the stakeholders need to be trained to make farmers adopt and successful by turning the knowledge into design and action.

To solve these challenges, we are building a solution platform to train the stakeholders and change-makers for converting theory into practice and scale regenerative farming successfully in the country. We do this by organizing conferences, workshops and need based training programs for the concerned. At our field locations, we experiment and demonstrate the success of the best practices, technologies and business solutions and the same would be used for giving training to the participants.

EcoSystem Building of Climate Conscious Youth and Citizens

At the grassroot level, there is less awareness and knowledge about climate change and its impacts in the Indian context. Without having the preliminary knowledge and awareness among the masses, we cannot mobilize them towards activities on climate action. Thus, we develop initiatives and programs to build climate literacy for climate action.

Our Present Offerings

We organize experiential immersion programs to graduates, individuals, civil society groups, corporate executives and employees on joyful sustainable living and climate action at our “Living Labs”. These Living Labs provide opportunities to people to get inspired and change their lifestyle patterns to a joyful and conscious living. Our Sustainability Immersion Programs (SIP) motivates and challenges the participants’ mindsets and lifestyles to lead a responsible and joyful life while keeping the planet healthy.

Training programmes on best practices to scale regenerative agriculture

Training all the concerned stakeholders for the sustainability transition is critical to implement with speed and to scale. Our target group would include Staff, Employees and Managers from: Government agricultural and animal husbandry departments, agricultural and business universities, krishi vignyan kendras, farmer producer organizations (FPOs), Dairy Farm Associations and NGOs. Our expertise is in designing programmes of best practices and working models to make regenerative farming practical and profitable for promoters and farmers.

Some of our design solutions include:

  • Centralized organic enriched manure and concoctions centers (farm inputs)
  • Innovative approaches to guarantee that the cultivation of crops is done without using any synthetic chemicals
  • Direct sales of produce to consumers through online digital platforms
  • Post harvest solutions for the storage and processing of perishable fruits
  • Climate smart seeds and fruit plantation

Children and Youth Initiatives

We undertake various initiatives to educate, equip and train India’s youth with sustainability knowledge, skills and tools to tackle the challenges of the 21st century. Some of the activities include: Eco-Friendly Construction, Regenerative Agriculture, Cold-Pressed Edible Oil Processing, Yoga and Healthy lifestyles.

Workdone so far

Some of the small scale enterprises or cottage industries that we have technically supported so far include: Cold Press Oil Processing Units, Dairy Farm Management, Multi Grain Nutritional Powder Making Units, Organic Concoctions Preparation Units for practicing regenerative agriculture, Eco-friendly CSEB brick manufacturing and Eco-friendly construction, among others. These enterprises are executed in the field with the support of our field partners and Veda Gayathri Rishi Pariwar (VGRP) Trust and Veda Gayathri Rishi International Gurukulam in Telangana. Through these centers, youth are trained to become leaders to train others for self-empowerment in rural areas.
